Paper Roses – “This was my first Nashville record – I recorded it when I was 12 ½. In re-recording it, we asked Sonny James, the original producer, to do it. Not only did he reproduce the song, but we did it in the same studio live with many of the musicians. And I sang it in the same innocent spirit I had back then.”
There’s No Stopping Your Heart – “I was floored the first time I heard this – I loved the positiveness of it. It still holds up – it goes over great in concert.”
Meet Me In Montana – “Singing this with Dan Seals made for a very easy combination. I had always been a big fan of his. Maybe it’s because we were both used to recording duets, but doing this together just flowed like magic. It went on to win the CMA Duo of the Year Award.”
Everybody’s Crazy ‘Bout My Baby – “I picked this song because of what it says: ‘go ahead, flirt with my man, I know that he loves me.’ It’s a real fun song to perform live.”
Like A Hurricane – “This is a new song. It’s real positive, well crafted and has a great groove to it.”
Think With Your Heart – “Another new tune. After a long day of listening, I heard this and loved it immediately.”
Read My Lips – “I love it for the vulnerable quality it has. It was fun to record, and it still gets a lot of airplay.”
I Only Wanted You – “This is my favorite. Women really like this tune because of what it says: ‘I didn’t want the Cadillac or the diamonds, all I wanted was you.’ And besides that , it just cooks.”
You’re Still New To Me – “Paul Davis wrote this and he brought it to me as a solo tune, but I heard it as a duet. So I asked him to sing it with me. I think he’s one of the finest singers and writers around. He’s a real funny and warmhearted too.”
I’ll Be Faithful To You – “This wasn’t a single, but it’s consistently my most requested song. Every time I perform this, a hush falls over the audience. I really believe in what it says – it has a very encouraging, powerful message.”
