Exclusive: The Osmonds Come To Ipswich Regent
Next Year

by Wayne Savage
Evening Star
June 7, 2011

Get ready to get up close and personal with The Osmonds, who are coming to the Regent Theatre next year.

Donny won’t be joining them, but Jimmy, Wayne, Merrill and Jay will take fans on a journey through all the hits.

These are sure to include everything from Down By The Lazy River and Let Me In to Love Me For A Reason, Crazy Horses and Long Haired Lover From Liverpool – Jimmy’s famous 1972 number one.

Starting as a barbershop quartet, the group comprised brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay who sang to raise money to help their deaf brothers Virl and Tom buy hearing aids and serving missions for their church.

The line-up has changed over the years, with the addition of younger brothers Donny and Jimmy; both of whom have also enjoyed successful solo careers.

The brothers were regulars on the Andy Williams and Jerry Lewis shows in the 60s, before deciding they wanted to perform popular music and shed their variety-show image.

With the release of the 1971 number hit, One Bad Apple, they soon went on to become teen-music idols, scoring hit after hit such as Double Lovin’ and Yo-Yo.

They soon began writing their own rock ‘n’ roll tinged tracks such as Crazy Horses, playing to screaming fans the world over.

No matter the line-up, they have continued to enjoy massive success as a band and as solo performers, with more than 200 albums, worldwide sales topping 102 million and 59 gold and platinum recordings to their name.

Having sold out venues worldwide, breaking box office records and receiving countless awards they last performed in Ipswich in 2006.

“We truly want this tour to be a great big thank you to all our fans for their love and support through the years.

“We’ve performed in the UK many times, but this final tour will take us all around the UK and allow us to get up close and personal with our fans – we can’t wait,” said Jimmy.

The Osmonds, Up Close and Personal – The Final Tour, plus support, will be at the Ipswich Regent on March 21 next year.

Tickets range in price, with a meet and greet package available. They go on sale from 9.30am today.
