Donny and Debbie do a walk on the set of “Dinah Shore”. They were cooking during the segment. Donny was there at KTLA to show Debbie where they used to tape the Donny and Marie Show in Los Angeles. Dinah asked how she likes married life and what she cooks Donny for dinner, she replied, “TV Dinners”.  They all laughed and Donny said she is a good cook.

Donny and Marie’s single, On The Shelf rose to #40 on Billboard’s Easy Listening chart.  After 13 weeks, this was its last position on the chart.  It reached its highest position at #25 on December 9, 1978.

The Donny and Marie Show (#414) aired on this date. Guests included Dirk Benedict, Debby Boone, and Paul Lynde. This was the final Donny and Marie show to air before turning into the Osmond Family Show.

The Osmond Family Show #101 made its debut on television.  The first show took place at the Winter Carnival in Park City, Utah. Guests included Roy Clark, David Copperfield, the U.S. Ski Team, Lassie and Ice Angels.

The Osmonds rehearse for the Royal Albert Hall performance. The performance was that evening.  After the concert, they met Princess Margaret.

The Osmond family rushed from an engagement in Manchester, England to present a 9-minute performance for Chinese Vice-Premier Teng Hsiao-ping at the Hilton Ballroom in Washington D.C.  A 17-minute show was originally planned but was cut short when the vice-premier had to leave for a scheduled reception at the National Gallery of Art.  Wayne learned to say a statement to the vice-premier in Chinese  He was coached by a professor of Chinese literature at the University of Chicago.  Cho Len, Teng’s wife, stayed after he left and the Osmonds met with her later.

More than 3000 people packed Westminster’s Historic Central Hall in the heat of London to hear members of the Osmond family speak at a series of firesides over a three day period.  Each member bore their testimonies of the gospel.  The Church leaders had received 1000 phone calls requesting information on the Chuch.  One day’s mail contained more than 5000 letters.

The Osmonds attended a special Family Home Evening with LDS Prophet, Spencer W. Kimball and his wife in Salt Lake City at their home.  The evening started with a dinner and ended with a few songs from the family.

A full-page advertisement was in the Provo Herald announcing the grand opening of Osmond Real Estate and Development.

Summer 1979
The Osmonds went to North Carolina in a private jet owned by RJR Foods (the people who do the Hawaiian Punch commercials) and then the jet took them to Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The Osmonds performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.  While there, they visited the Smithsonian and the White House.

After Washington, Donny and Jay flew to Perth, Australia where Donny performed for the Miss Universe Broadcast.  They saw the Skylab piece that fell to earth near Australia and received a piece of it for souvenir.

The Osmonds were in St. Louis, MO with Paul H. Dunn and did some firesides.  They had dinner at the mission home.  They also went to a baseball game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs.  After participating in a pre-game ceremony, they enjoyed the game.  The next day they participated in three firesides.

The Osmond Family performed a six-night engagement at the Valley Forge Music Fair in Philadelphia, PA.  In Pennsylvania, they visited Independence Hall, saw the Liberty Bell, and the statue of Benjamin Franklin covered in pennies.  They also went to the zoo and to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus.  George, Donny, and Alan rode the elephants.

The Osmond family performed at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT for a 6-day engagement.  In Connecticut, they visited Yale University.  Donny and Marie visited a children’s hospital.

The Osmond Family performed at the Melody Fair Theater in North Tonawanda, New York near Buffalo.  While in New York, they went over Niagra Falls and went to Palmyra, New York to retrace some LDS History at the Sacred Grove and the Hill Cumorah.

The Osmond Family performed a the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, MA for a 6-day engagement.  While there, they went to Boston and was able to walk the streets and do some sightseeing.  They visited Harvard University, shopped on Newbury Street and saw the site of the Boston Tea Party.  The Osmonds also went to Plymouth, MA and visitedthe Plymouth Plantation where they dress, speak, and live just they did in the early part of the nation’s history.  They also visited Plymouth Rock and took a lot of pictures with their families.

July 1979
Marie received the Stylemaker of the Year award from the National Cosmetologists of America.  The award was given yearly to a woman who has contributed to the development of makeup, style, and personal achievement.

The Osmonds performed in Des Moines, IA.  Their truck carrying costumes, instruments, and other show materials was stolen from the parking lot.  The drivers had parked the truck under a light just outside the entrance to the hotel.  Someone hotwired the truck. It was found the following afternoon without the instruments, some show costumes, and personal belongings.
