Merrill’s family left London this morning and headed for Manchester.  Justin retraced some of his steps from his mission for him and was able to share with them some of the places he had lived and visited while he was on his mission.  Later that evening, Merrill, Mary, and Justin were able to do some Temple work at the Temple in Manchester and them met with some of Justin’s friends.  Afterwards, they headed for Liverpool and stayed at the Britannia Adelphia Hotel.

Carol Mikita, with KSL-TV did a story about the prophet and the dedication of the Madrid, Spain Temple.  In connection with that project, she notified Alan that his son David and David’s companion were selected to represent a day in the life of a missionary.

The Osmond Network announced that the final contract negotiations were being processed for a new tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  The Second Generation will once again be playing Joseph’s brothers.  It was unknown at this time as to who would be playing Joseph and the narrator, but it would not be one of the Second Generation Osmonds.  Once again, this production would be produced b the Troika Group.

KSL’s special, The Saints In Spain aired between the LDS conference sessions.  The special was about the dedication of the new LDS Temple.  During the special, David and his companion were interviewed.  Brian and Marie were also at the dedication as Brian was one of the first missionaries to serve in Spain.

Alan’s son, Nathan spoke at the Provo Sesquicentennial Commemorative Service in the Marriott Center at BYU in Provo, Utah. The guest speaker was President Thomas S. Monson.  Also in participation was a Children’s Choir of 2000 members and the Utah Valley Symphony, combined High School orchestras and the Osmonds Second Generation.  This was not a fan event, but a special service for high school students.  The Second Generation sang the National Anthem.

Virgin Atlantic was using the original recording of Crazy Horses in a television advertisement in England.  According to a description of the advertisement by Osmond fan Mandy Ripley, it depicts a man riding a motorcycle charging across a wasteland.  He takes a flying leap off the top of the hill into a rainbow and the caption reads:  Some say why…others say why not?  At that point, the Virgin Atlantic logo comes up.

Donny was featured in an article in the Chicago Sun Times.  In the article it stated that Donny had been diagnosed with a social disorder.  Donny explained that he is a Type A personality who must have perfection.  While Donny was in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat he started having panic attacks.  He knew the attacks were very serious when he couldn’t go on stage one night in Minnesota.   They had to use his understudy.  Donny stated that the mind-numbing stress of opening Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Chicago is what tipped the scales.  He was told again and again that Chicago was an important city.  If the show didn’t work well there, it would not work anywhere.  Donny stated he put himself under an enormous amount of pressure during its 17-month run.  At the end of the run, Donny’s wife, Debbie would come backstage and tell him to just go out there and do an average night, you don’t have to be perfect.  Donny stated that is when he started enjoying himself again.

Donny participated in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Grand Prix in Long Beach, California.  He had a few bumps in the road during the qualifying round, but managed to pull in a qualifying time that put him in second place and kept him in the front row for tomorrow’s race.

Donny raced in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Grand Prix in Long Beach, California.  The race was 10 laps and 18.5 miles long.  However, Donny was unable to complete the race because his car crashed and flipped over.  Donny was not injured.

Merrill left for Mexico to participate in some firesides.  On Saturday, he did a fireside at Benemerito for students and the faculty in the morning and another fireside at the Aragon Chapel on the Temple grounds in the evening.  On Sunday, he did another fireside at the Benemerito Stake Center in the afternoon, and another one at the Churubusco Stake Center in the evening.

An article appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle about sculptor, Kahn Gasimov, sculpting Donny’s head.  He was hired from London’s Madame Tussauds by the San Francisco Wax Museum which is building a big new home at Fisherman’s Wharf.  The museum will feature several new creations by Kahn, such as Donny and Marie, Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet featured in the movie, Titanic among others.  He was working on Donny’s clay head, delicately shaping the ears with a thin wooden tool.  Kahn had some close-up photos taken of both Donny and Marie taken at a recent session on the Los Angeles set of the Donny & Marie show.  When the clay sculpture is complete – a process that will take approximately two to three months – Kahn will make a mold of it in plaster or silicon.  Then he will pour hot beeswax, tinted with pigment to match the skin color into the mold.
